Church isn’t just a place to be, it’s a community! Christ calls us to love God, and to love others. The church gives us opportunities to hear the Word, and to apply what we hear by ministering to, helping, and encouraging one another.
Not sure what you can do? The Lord gives each of us gifts to use (See Romans 12:6-13). Here is a list of opportunities to learn, to serve, and to reach out to others.
- AWANA
Powhatan has adopted AWANA as our Youth discipleship and ministry program. - BBQ Chicken Fundraiser/Outreach
This once- or twice-a-year event involves planning, marketing, cooking, assembling, delivering, greeting, smiling, and lots of cleaning! Whether you prefer direct community interaction or working behind-the-scenes, there’s a job for you! - Blessing Box
This “tiny pantry” in the parking lot is an available resource for the community. - Choir/Special Music
Do you have musical talent? Whether you sing or play an instrument, talk to our Music Director about opportunities to use your gift. - Community Outreach
Whether you have a specific idea or just a heart for reaching the lost, this team can give you a chance to put ideas into action. - Condolence Meal Ministry
Help minister to families in their times of loss. - Forged (Men’s Group)
Join our men’s ministry, where we combine fellowship, study, and application opportunities to practice ministering effectively to our families, our church, our community, and our world. - Game Night

Take a turn welcoming people as they walk in the door on Sunday. Hand out bulletins, help with directions, and let visitors see God’s joy in your smile! - Homeless Ministry
This ministry offers physical and spiritual nourishment to the local homeless population. - Kingdom Builders
This discipleship small group for adults teaches us to grow in our Christian walk. - Relay for Life
Join our team for the annual Relay for Life to support cancer research! - Senior Adult Ministry (SAM)
Join our 60-or-older adults for bi-monthly meetings and activities. - Sunday School
Take the opportunity to learn, apply, and share the fundamentals, applications, and history of our faith. - Vacation Bible School
Every summer, we devote a week to hosting and teaching community youth (and adults) about the Bible. Planning and preparing start months in advance, however! If your gifts are in teaching, organizing, crafts, or storytelling, we have something you can do! - Women’s Ministry
