Services

Powhatan typically holds church services on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Sunday School

Starting at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings, we meet in various Sunday School classes to learn about the Bible and the foundations of our faith. These small-group settings give us a solid grounding in both the theory and application of living a Christian life, teaching us to develop a closer relationship with God and our fellow man. For details about our classes, see our Sunday School page.

Worship Service

On Sunday mornings, after Sunday School, we meet in the sanctuary from 11 am to noon for our Worship Service. Our service is mostly traditional, with hymns from the choir and congregation, prayer requests, and special music leading up to a Spirit-led, Bible-based sermon. On occasion, we incorporate some praise-and-worship singing into the service. You can listen to recorded sermons on our Sermons page.

Bible Study

Our 6 pm Sunday-evening service is more relaxed and interactive. We meet in the Fellowship Hall and enjoy coffee while our pastor leads us in our Bible study. Questions and comments are welcomed, as we all seek to learn together.

Prayer Meeting

On Wednesday nights at 7 pm, we hold our Prayer Meeting in the Fellowship Hall. The informal setting allows us to study and practice what God’s Word tells us about prayer.

Family Night

On the first Wednesday after the first Sunday in each month, our Prayer Meeting is replaced with a Family Night service. We have service/study groups for each family member to attend. The Laymen’s League meets in the Original Fellowship Hall, the Woman’s Auxiliary meets in the new Fellowship Hall, and the Youth meet in the 6-to-12 classroom.

On the first family night of each new quarter (January, April, July, and October), we share a covered-dish dinner at 6 pm. Bring something to share, or just come and take part in the fellowship. Family Night services follow at 7 pm.

Suzanne Hall–Update 2

I brought Suzanne home from the hospital today. She was very glad to get a break from the place. (She’s been there almost a week.) 🙂 Suzanne now has a specialist surgeon, and hopefully she can have the surgery next week. (Most likely, she will either be at Rex or Chapel Hill for the surgery.) Thankfully, her parents did make it in from CA, and they are staying in Raleigh now. Please continue to keep Suzanne in your prayers…she may be dealing with this for several more weeks.

Suzanne Hall Update

Please keep my friend Suzanne and her son Ethan in your prayers. She is in ICU at Johnston Memorial and will probably be in the hospital for at least a week. Her blood pressure spiked to 218/172…Thank the Lord, her BP is finally back down. Her doctor did an MRI and found a tumor on her left adrenal gland. The surgeon hopes to remove it by Monday.
